This lure is used to mainly attack the range below the visible range. Its shape is specially designed for jerking and stopping motions, compared to cranks and deep minnows. This conical shape produces distinctive surface and point effects. Specifically, the surface of the lure draws the attention of fish, and as the fish passes the rear of the lure is seen very small, like a point. Fish have the tendency to keep a certain distance from any unknown object, so when something suddenly changes to a point, the fish naturally reduces the distance from that point. Eventually, in many cases the fish will bite the lure. For example, even when you can’t visually confirm a school of fish, you can still probe the reaction of small fish as long as you have a fish finder. In many cases it’s impossible to know whether these small fish are being chased by a fish eater, but one advantage of the Shad is that it can always produce movements within this school of fish to attract fish eaters.
